On the 31st of August 2022 the Council of Ministers issued the historic decree on minimum wage. The Decree applies to all employees in Cyprus excluding houseworkers, workers in shipping and those working with farming and livestock. Further, excluded is any employee for whom the law, practice or contract provides for more favourable arrangements.
From the 1st of January 2023 the minimum salary for any full time employees will be 940 Euros per month. However, for the first six months of employment the salary will be a minimum of 885 Euros, later rising to the minimum salary of 940 Euros per month. This means that seasonal workers will not be eligible for the higher amount. For part time employees the minimum wage will be adjusted on the basis of the number of hours worked.
When an employer offers food to the employee, a deduction of 15% will be possible. Further, when accommodation is offered to the employee, a 10% deduction will be possible.
The minimum wage will be reviewed on the 1st of January 2024 and subsequent reviews will take place every two years.
