Medical negligence cases are not as common in Cyprus as in other jurisdictions such as the UK and the USA. Cypriot Courts are often not willing to award claimants high amounts of compensation. Danos & Associates has settled last month a large claim of medical negligence for over 150.000 Euros as compensation for the claimant who has suffered serious physical injuries such as loss of vision and kidney failure due to a wrong diagnosis.
We feel that more victims of medical malpractice should be encouraged to seek Court action when their health suffered due to below par standard of care on behalf of health practitioners. Further, we believe that all doctors and hospitals should be insured for large amounts to cover any potential claims against them for malpractice.
